Indigenous Student Seminar: Letter of Recommendation Submission
APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2020 PROGRAM ARE NOW OPEN
Thank you for taking the time to recommend a candidate for the Hoover Institution’s inaugural Indigenous Student Seminar.
Given covid, we will be conducting the seminar in two parts: a short online course in August, followed by a two-day seminar at Stanford once we're able to return to campus.
Modeled after the successful Hoover Institution Summer Policy Bootcamp, this seminar will focus on barriers to entrepreneurship and economic development in Indian Country. It is part of a larger Hoover Project on Renewing Indigenous Economies led by Hoover senior fellow Terry Anderson and program manager Wendy Purnell. The initiative conducts research to understand the institutions that allowed people to prosper before European contact; examines how colonial-style federal Indian policies have stifled tribal economies; shares best practices from successful tribal governments; and promotes policy changes that will allow successful self-determination.
The seminar content is geared toward advanced undergrads, recent grads, and first year grad students and law students.
We ask recommenders to complete the following form, with all required fields marked by an asterisk. Please note that recommendations for applications to the Indigenous Student Seminar do not require a supplemental letter.
Please be aware that admissions decisions are made only after all required materials are received and reviewed, so your prompt submission is kindly requested.
The deadline to submit your recommendation is May 8, 2020.
